Ann Sobrato High School Band Programs

Jazz Band

+ AP Music Theory

 

This is a new course (2023) at Ann Sobrato High school held during zero period. Nothing like starting the day with a little Jazz in your step.  Music theory is taught using Jazz and is open to students who have some music experience. In the Spring the class will participate in festivals throughout the Bay Area. Depending on the year the students will participate in the Reno Jazz Festival or be the band for the school musical. The Jazz Ensemble has earned Superior Ratings (the highest rating possible) at many of these festivals.

 

Concert Band

Auditions Not Required


Concert Band is open to all intermediate level instrumentalists. This ensembles performs 4 concerts each year and participates in regional Music Festivals in March, April and May. Students can opt to march in local parades and play at football games.

Wind Ensemble

Auditions Required


Wind Ensemble is open to advanced instrumentalists (audition only).  This ensembles performs 4 concerts each year and participate in regional Music Festivals in March, April and May.  Students may opt to march in local parades and play at football games. The band has earned Unanimous Superior Ratings (the highest possible rating) at many of these festivals.

Greg Chambers

Director of Bands

Greg began teaching at Sobrato High School and Martin Murphy Middle School in 2015 and was born and raised in Gilroy, CA. Since taking the position, the enrollment between both schools has nearly tripled and his top ensembles have accumulated multiple Unanimous Superior Ratings at regional festivals and the Ann Sobrato Marching Band & Colorguard has established itself as one of the top programs of its division in the WBA Circuit. Since fall of 2023, Greg has been teaching 100% at Sobrato High School.


As a smooth jazz saxophonist, Greg's music has landed on the Billboard Jazz Chart, Sirius XM and Music Choice TV channels, and terrestrial radio all over the world. Over the years, Greg has collaborated with some of the best in the genre, including Euge Groove, Adam Hawley, Jonathan Fritzen, Michael Fields Jr., Lew Laing, Nils, Judah Sealy, David P. Stevens, Matt Godina, Nate Harasim, Julian Vaughn, and 2x Grammy winner Paul Brown.


Also a classically-trained saxophonist, Greg earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music degrees in Saxophone from UCLA and has studied with Doug Masek and Bill Trimble. He has worked with the New World Symphony in Miami, the Spoleto USA Festival Orchestra, and was the Saxophone Fellowship recipient for the 2007 & 2008 seasons of the Aspen Music Festival. Greg has performed as a soloist and a member with orchestras throughout the Bay Area and worked with renown conductors like Leonard Slatkin, Michael Tilson Thomas, David Robertson and others.

Greg is an endorsed Artist of Conn-Selmer, Inc. and currently lives in Morgan Hill with his wife and two children.
